International Maritime Organisation (IMO)

The International Maritime Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations which is responsible for measures to improve the safety and security of international shipping and to prevent marine pollution from ships. It is also involved in legal matters, including liability and compensation issues and the facilitation of international maritime traffic.


The International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA)

It is a voluntary non-profit organization whose membership includes both petroleum companies and associations at the national, regional or international levels. Separate working groups within IPIECA address global environmental and social issues related to the petroleum industry: oil spill preparedness and response, global climate change, biodiversity, social responsibility, fuel quality and vehicle emissions, and human health. IPIECA also helps members identify new global issues and assesses their potential impact on the oil industry.


INTERNATIONAL TANKER OWNERS POLLUTION FEDERATION LIMITED (ITOPF)

ITOPF is a non-profit making organization, funded by the vast majority of the world's shipowners. We devote considerable effort to a wide range of technical services, the most important of which is responding to oil spills. Their technical advisers have attended 500 spills on-site in 88 countries.


The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) conducts research and gathers data about the global oceans, atmosphere, space, and sun, and applies this knowledge to science and service.

NOAA warns of dangerous weather, charts the seas and skies, guides the use and protection of ocean and coastal resources, and conducts research to improve our understanding and stewardship of the environment which sustains us all.


UNEP Oil Pollution Gateway

Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA). The GPA is designed to be a source of conceptual and practical guidance to be drawn upon by national and/or regional authorities for devising and implementing sustained action to prevent, reduce, control and/or eliminate marine degradation from land-based activities.

The GPA aims at preventing the degradation of the marine environment from land-based activities by facilitating the duty of nations to preserve and protect the marine environment.

The International Association of Oil & Gas producers (OGP) encompasses most of the world’s leading publicly-traded, private and state-owned oil & gas companies, oil & gas associations and major upstream service companies. OGP members produce more than half the world’s oil and about one third of its gas.



Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME)

Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) is to coordinate the Member States efforts towards protection of the water quality in ROPME Sea Area and protect the environment systems as well as marine living and to abate the pollution caused by the development activities of the Member States.

Federal Environmental Agency (FEA) is to protect and develop the Environment within UAE, to determine the necessary plans and policies to safeguard it from damaging activities, particularly those affecting human health, agricultural crops, wildlife, marine life, other natural resources and atmosphere, to implement such plans and policies, to take all suitable measures and actions to prevent deterioration of the environment, to combat environmental pollution of all kinds and to minimize effects of pollution for the welfare of the present and future generations.

Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC)

The Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) is a regional inter-governmental organization concerned with the development of the petroleum industry by fostering cooperation among its members. OAPEC contributes to the effective use of the resources of member countries through sponsoring joint ventures. The Organization is guided by the belief in the importance of building an integrated petroleum industry as a cornerstone for future economic integration amongst Arab countries.

 

The Regional Organisation for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA)

PERSGA, the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, is an intergovernmental body dedicated to the conservation of the coastal and marine environments in the region.

Operating from Jeddah on the Red Sea, PERSGA is responsible for the development and implementation of regional programs for the protection and preservation of the unique ecosystem and high biological diversity of this region.

The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) has exclusively represented the worldwide oil and gas drilling industry. IADC's mission is promoting commitment to safety, preservation of the environment and advances in drilling technology.


Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries is made up of eleven developing nations, whose economies rely on oil export revenues. OPEC's objective is to co-ordinate and unify petroleum policies among Member Countries, in order to secure fair and stable prices for petroleum producers; an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming nations; and a fair return on capital to those investing in the industry.
