On 22nd– 24th February 2016, Regional Clean Sea Organization (RECSO) and its members attended the Ninth Oil Spill Response Officers’ (OSRO) Meeting associated with the Master plan/ Contingency Planning Committee in Doha, Qatar. The aims of the Meeting were to review and follow up to related decisions in regard to the status of the GCC National Contingency Plan of each Member State, the Regional Contingency Plan, the Regional Preparedness and Response capabilities to combat oil and chemical spills, revision of the future Programmed activities related to the Oil Spill Response Officers’ (OSRO) duties as well as the pollution threat in the Region, and to follow up the full process of establishment of the Marine Emergency Response and Salvage Co-ordination Unit (MERCU) System. The Meeting was attended by the Member States designated Response Officers from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, in addition to the Chairman of the GCC Emergency Management Centre and Private sector Companies.
RECSO Chairman Dr. Hasan Ahmed Anbar presented an appreciation token to MEMAC Director Captain A. Munem AL-Janahi and Mr. Salem Akram, Director of Marine Coastal Sustainable Department, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, at Doha, Qatar.
